# Bussy
_Agent of the Righteous Order of the White Flame | Heroes of Waterdeep | Waterdeep_
## Summary
Eccentric agent of the Righteous Order of the White Flame and one of the Heroes of Waterdeep. Recruited by Remi Haventree alongside Auruiel, Rat, and Carrot to hunt Gar Shatterkeel and defeat the Cult of the Crushing Wave. Possessed unique planar powers and a talent for rogue action that was equal parts brilliant and catastrophic. Father of Lynne with Aribeth de Tylmarande, the legendary paladin known as "the Silverhand."
Bussy's legacy in the current era is defined more by absence than presence. His daughter Lynne carries the weight of two absent parents. Rat Chumbucket, his former shipmate, still can barely say his name without fury. And the Sewn Sisters transformed Aribeth into a Soulmonger specifically as revenge against Bussy and the Heroes of Waterdeep — part of Acererak's generational vendetta against the heroes through their children.

## Personality
Eccentric, impulsive, and operating on a logic that made perfect sense to him and almost nobody else. Could break down weeping under psychic assault one moment and perform a physics-defying mid-air teleport rescue the next. Alternated between brilliant tactical thinking — knocking a mind-controlled Baldric unconscious to save the party — and wildly reckless solo missions that left everyone scrambling. Even while mind-controlled by an ancient aboleth, he found ways to subtly criticize the creature's battle tactics. An opportunist to the end: when Waterdeep was relatively deserted during the Oblivion War, his first instinct was to loot.
## Quote
_"I have authority over planar matters."_
## Background
**The Righteous Order:** Bussy served as an agent of the Righteous Order of the White Flame, an organization dedicated to monitoring and controlling planar threats. His handler was Horace Warfield. This affiliation gave him both his planar powers and a sense of authority over extraplanar matters that he wielded with enthusiastic disregard for local law enforcement.
**The Crushing Wave Campaign:** Recruited by Remi Haventree to join Auruiel, Rat, and Carrot in hunting Gar Shatterkeel. Bussy served as the party's specialist on planar threats, confirming an active portal in Thalivar's Tower and later smashing it during a battle with Star Spawns — nearly getting disintegrated by Thalivar's ghost. When he learned that the wizard Nostura was rebuilding the portal, Bussy acted alone: he infiltrated House Thalivar, killed two Neverwinter guards, stole the Planar Beacon, escaped via zipline, and destroyed the artifact in the ocean.
**Arrest and Escape:** The beacon incident got Bussy arrested by Dagult Neverember, who tried to ransom his freedom for the party's ship, the Devil's Fin. Bussy vanished from his cell and woke in the tower of the Order of the Many-Starred Cloak, where Nostura and Gyrion Farseeker forced maddening visions of the Far Realm into his mind. He was freed by Avini Belebranta but lingered outside the tower plotting to steal a weapon before finally reuniting with the crew.
**The Aboleth's Puppet:** During the climactic battle at the Water Node, Bussy called the Righteous Order for backup. When Yngukulub, the ancient aboleth, seized control of Baldric's mind, Bussy struck his ally unconscious to save the party. The aboleth retaliated by taking control of Bussy instead, forcing him into a deadly pursuit of Auruiel. Even enslaved, Bussy managed to subtly and openly mock the aboleth's tactical decisions — a feat of personality that the mind control couldn't fully suppress.
**The Leviathan Rescue:** When a Leviathan destroyed the party's ship and corrupted Erinyes carried a dying Mya toward the Death Knight Dreadnaught, Bussy performed one of the campaign's most spectacular saves: teleporting mid-air to catch Mya as she plummeted toward the ocean.
**The Oblivion War:** In the endgame, Bussy received critical intelligence from Horace Warfield that Verin, Graz'zt's voice, had supposedly turned on the Demon Prince. Bussy delivered this to Baldric and the Open Lord, helping set the stage for the final strikes against the demonic invasion — though Verin's defection later proved to be a deliberate trap by Graz'zt.
**Aribeth and Lynne:** Bussy's union with Aribeth de Tylmarande — Knight-Commander of the Order of the Gauntlet, known as "the Silverhand" — produced their daughter Lynne. Aribeth abandoned Lynne to continue serving her order, terrified of failing as a mother. She regretted this decision until the day she died. The Sewn Sisters found Aribeth dying in the snow and transformed her into a Soulmonger — explicitly as revenge against Bussy and the Heroes of Waterdeep. This act is part of Acererak's larger generational vendetta, punishing the heroes through their children.
**The Absent Father:** In the current era, Bussy is defined by his absence. Rat Chumbucket, his former companion aboard the Scurvy Sea Lion, blames Bussy for ruining his life and getting him exiled. Yet when Lynne doubts whether her father would be proud of her, Rat's furious response — insisting that Bussy damn well should be proud — reveals that the anger masks something more complicated. Bussy's current whereabouts and status are unknown.
