## At a Glance
Well-dressed, sophisticated, and carrying himself with an air of unearned superiority that somehow never entirely extinguishes his charm. Quick to take the lead in any negotiation and actively tries to prevent his more volatile companions from causing diplomatic incidents — a task roughly equivalent to herding fireballs.
Has mellowed since marrying Elena, though "mellowed" for Eris Bloom still means he assumes everyone in the room recognizes his immense worth. Pellowea coached him on how not to be an asshole before his return to Waterdeep; results were mixed but measurable. Now thrilled with his promotion to Ambassador to the Winter Court, which involves many important meetings and keeps him far from Princess Chandrelle.
## Personality
Operates on a compelling blend of intense self-preservation, diplomatic arrogance, and staggering lack of self-awareness. Frequently assumes others recognize his importance, which has led to disastrous misunderstandings — including interpreting Xyrbwynn's drunken hostility as romantic interest, an error that got him disintegrated. Despite genuine cowardice and self-centered maneuvering, possesses a core of real loyalty that surfaced when it mattered most: at Elena's urging, he stood his ground during the retreat from Swan Hill and fought in the final apocalyptic battles. His love for Elena is the one thing he's never been calculating about.

## Background
**The Jarlaxle Connection:** Banished from the Summer Court by Queen Titania for unsanctioned dealings with Jarlaxle Baenre and Bregan D'aerthe. Appointed Ambassador to the Shadow Court — a post he considered a death sentence — before being reassigned to guide the party through the Feywild.
**The Disintegration:** At the Emerald Toad inn, a heavily intoxicated Xyrbwynn disintegrated Eris after he escorted her to her room. He was resurrected by Princess Danelian Dandelion, who extracted a devastating price: 6,000 years of servitude and a forced betrothal to Princess Chandrelle, his clingy ex who had previously ruined his chances of finishing cleric school.
**Elena the Mad:** Desperate to escape Chandrelle, Eris pursued Elena the Mad, Baba Yaga's adopted daughter. Their courtship was spectacularly unhinged: Elena rescued Eris from a tree prison, then the couple infiltrated a manor and assassinated Eris's political rival, Loric Oakbound. When Chandrelle caught them at the scene, Eris ordered Elena to kill her — which instead caused Natasha the Dark to possess Chandrelle and cancel the marriage. A drunk Eris then wandered into the palace and confessed to murder.
**Elena's Death and Resurrection:** When Elena sent Eris urgent messages that she was under attack inside Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut, Eris delayed responding. The party arrived to find Elena beheaded by Graz'zt. The Demon Prince plane-shifted away, and the weight of Eris's hesitation crushed him. Elena was later resurrected — and eventually became "Elena the Fair" as her madness receded.
**The Proposal:** At Aralu, after watching a simulacrum of Elena destroyed while testing the spell to break the Shard of Evil, Eris tried to reassure her. This somehow led to a marriage proposal with a DIY ring. Elena accepted.
**The Promotion:** Petitioning Queen Titania to be sent to Waterdeep to find Elena, Eris instead received a promotion to Ambassador to the Winter Court. He was so thrilled he mostly forgot about Elena for a bit.
**The Alliance:** Selected to represent the Feywild in the grand alliance with the Material Plane. Returned to Waterdeep with Pellowea, Xyrbwynn, Elena, and others. Did his best not to complain about the dust and lack of manners. Pellowea coached him on diplomacy.
**The Wedding:** On the last night before the final battle of the Oblivion War, Eris and Elena married with Baba Yaga herself in attendance. It was, by all accounts, adorable.
**Swan Hill:** During the disastrous Battle of Swan Hill, when the Shadow Court, Nightwalkers, and Mephistopheles forced a retreat to Silverbrook, Eris — at Elena's urging — stood his ground and didn't prove to be a total coward. For Eris Bloom, this constituted a genuine breakthrough.
