!BeregondPathfinder-v3.webp # Beregond _Human Cleric of Beshaba | Doombringers | Yartar_ ## Summary A former cleric of Tymora who traveled with the party before betraying them at Helm's Hold to become Beshaba's Chosen. In Yartar he orchestrated the city's downfall through his cult, the Doombringers, from the Halls of Calamity beneath the Fool's Fortune casino. The heroes confronted and killed him there. %% ## Now _Deceased — beheaded by Viro Magnus's fireball and Wade's Eldritch Blast, and severed from Beshaba by Garaele's gambling ritual._ ## Appearance A hollow-eyed figure in elegant black robes set with dark pearls, his skin turned to an alabaster pallor and his hair stark white, with yellow-rimmed eyes. He constantly flips a coin, and pauses mid-sentence to listen to whispers only he can hear. ## Personality Sardonic and vengeful, darkly amused by fate's cruelties. He is especially cruel to worshippers of Tymora, and to Garaele above all. ## Quote _"Lady Luck is the cruelest deity of all — she offers just enough hope to make the inevitable fall utterly devastating. At least Lady Doom is honest about her intentions."_ ## Connections **Asha** — his dead twin sister, a malevolent spirit companion bound to his soul. **Garaele** — Tymora's Chosen and his opposite in the divine contest. **Bronwyn** — his mother, whose prayer to Beshaba cursed the family. **Beshaba** — the goddess he chose to serve as her Chosen. **Selthara Mourne** — fellow ritualist in the Yartar misfortune workings. ## Background **The Cursed Family:** Beshaba's influence marked his family from before his birth — his mother Bronwyn prayed to her to eliminate a romantic rival. When his infant twin Asha died after three breaths, Beshaba claimed her soul and made her "The Calamity," bound to Beregond. Asha later proved to have caused every "accident" that destroyed his family. Raised amid tragedy, he turned to Tymora, hoping devotion could counteract what he thought was only bad luck. **The Betrayal:** During a Frost Giant siege at Helm's Hold, Beshaba appeared and offered him a blade of darkness, commanding him to strike down Sister Garaele. He chose to serve her, transforming with bulging muscles, ashen skin, and glowing yellow eyes, struck Garaele down, and was teleported away. **The Fall of Yartar:** Asha revealed the divine contest between the two Chosen. When confronted, Reese admitted they had only been "colleagues at best," enraging him. Beregond killed Gumdrop with a precise Misfortune's Grasp, but Garaele revived her. Viro Magnus's fireball and Wade's Eldritch Blast beheaded him, and Garaele gambled her Harpers pin in the ritual that severed Beshaba's connection. ## Stats **Base:** Cleric of Beshaba, CR 18. - **AC:** 20 | **HP:** 285 | **Speed:** 30 ft., fly 60 ft.
