# Cassandra Thann
_Human Cleric | [[Church of Tyr]] | [[Fort Ten-Torch]]_
## Summary
[[Aribeth de Tylmarande]]'s closest friend at [[Fort Ten-Torch]]—and the woman who watched [[Vareth Justicar]] execute her. Revealed the truth to [[Lynne]] in Session 80: that Aribeth survived [[Isarr Kronenstrom]]'s forces, was transformed by the [[Sewn Sisters]], returned undead but still herself, and was destroyed by her own Order. Cassandra helped construct the cover story afterward. She is [[Lynne]]'s most direct connection to her mother's final days.

## At a Glance
Early thirties, auburn hair kept practically short, freckles she never outgrew. [[Tyr]]'s balanced scales hang at her throat—she touches them when she's anxious. Warm smile that reaches her eyes, steady hands, the kind of presence that makes wounded soldiers relax. Keeps a battered copy of "The Masked Lord's Passion" hidden in her footlocker.
She found Aribeth when the paladin returned as a Soulmonger. Held her hand while [[Vareth Justicar]] passed judgment. Helped construct the lie afterward. Tells herself the [[Order of the Gauntlet]] deserves a hero, not a monster. Some nights she almost believes it.
## Personality
Genuinely kind, occasionally stern, deflects vulnerability with dry humor. Blunt when comfortable, formal when guarded. Hates politics—part of why she fled [[Waterdeep]]. Privately romantic in ways she'd never admit. Uncomfortable with her own doubts and covers them with busyness and service.
## Quote
_"Tyr teaches that justice requires sacrifice. I have to believe that. Otherwise, what's the point of any of this?"_
## Background
**The Thann Expectations:** Eldest daughter of [[House Thann]], expected to marry well and manage estates. Rejected it all at nineteen to join the [[Church of Tyr]]. Her family considers her wasted potential. She considers herself free.
**The Frontier:** Requested assignment to [[Fort Ten-Torch]] specifically because it was hard. Wanted to prove her faith meant something beyond comfortable temples. Found purpose in the brutal north—and found [[Aribeth de Tylmarande]], who became mentor, friend, and the mother figure she'd never had.
**The Execution:** When Aribeth returned transformed, Cassandra was the one who recognized her first. She pleaded with [[Vareth Justicar]] for time, for alternatives. He was immovable. She held Aribeth's hand at the end. Now she tells everyone the Silverhand died a hero's death fighting giants. The lie tastes like ash every time.
