Their partnership ended catastrophically when [[Baldric]] accidentally killed [[Eva]] during a botched ship-burning insurance fraud—[[Gar Shatterkeel|Gar]] was presumed dead and washed out to sea while [[Baldric]] was driven from [[Luskan]]. After fighting against the tide for days (a shark tore off his left hand), [[Shoalar Quanderil]] rescued him. Together with the triton [[Pisca Ahlorsath]], they convinced [[Gar Shatterkeel|Gar]] he was truly a prophet of [[Olhydra]], the Princess of Evil Water. He began experiencing visions commanding him to "drown this worthless, corrupted world." During the [[Princes of the Apocalypse]] campaign, [[Baldric]] believed he reunited with his old friend at the [[Temple of the Elder Elemental Eye]]—but this "Gar" was actually [[Graz'zt]] in disguise. [[Remi Haventree]] later tasked [[Baldric]] with bringing the real [[Gar Shatterkeel|Gar]] to justice. The final confrontation came when [[Gar Shatterkeel|Gar]]—now King of [[Mintarn]]—transformed into a massive Kraken after learning [[Baldric]] had tried to murder [[Shoalar Quanderil]]. [[Olhydra]] abandoned her failing prophet when he attempted to Plane Shift to safety, leaving him vulnerable to the party's final assault.
