![[GarShatterkeel.webp]] # Gar Shatterkeel _Human Water Prophet | [[Cult of the Crushing Wave]] | Deceased_ ## Summary [[Baldric]]'s former partner and best friend from [[Luskan]], where they worked together as con artists and smugglers and founded the [[Cult of the Crushing Wave]] as a religious scam. Their partnership ended when [[Baldric]] accidentally killed [[Eva]] during a botched ship-burning fraud; Gar was presumed dead, washed out to sea, and later resurfaced as a self-styled prophet of [[Olhydra]] before dying in his final confrontation with the party. %% ## Now _Deceased — abandoned by [[Olhydra]] and killed by the party as a Kraken._ ## Personality Convinced of his own prophethood, driven by visions commanding him to "drown this worthless, corrupted world." ## Connections **[[Baldric]]** — former partner and best friend; later hunted him. **[[Shoalar Quanderil]]** — rescued him from the sea and shaped him into a prophet. **[[Pisca Ahlorsath]]** — triton who helped convince him he was a prophet. **[[Eva]]** — killed by [[Baldric]] in the fraud that split the partnership. **[[Olhydra]]** — the Princess of Evil Water he served; abandoned him at the end. ## Background **The Partnership:** Founded the [[Cult of the Crushing Wave]] as an elaborate religious scam at [[Shoalar Quanderil]]'s encouragement. When [[Baldric]] accidentally killed [[Eva]], Gar was presumed dead and washed out to sea while [[Baldric]] was driven from [[Luskan]]. **The Prophet:** After days fighting the tide (a shark tore off his left hand), [[Shoalar Quanderil]] rescued him. With the triton [[Pisca Ahlorsath]], they convinced Gar he was truly a prophet of [[Olhydra]], and he began experiencing visions. **The Imposter:** During [[Princes of the Apocalypse]], [[Baldric]] believed he reunited with his old friend at the [[Temple of the Elder Elemental Eye]] — but this "Gar" was actually [[Graz'zt]] in disguise. **The End:** [[Remi Haventree]] tasked [[Baldric]] with bringing the real Gar to justice. Now King of [[Mintarn]], Gar transformed into a massive Kraken after learning [[Baldric]] had tried to murder [[Shoalar Quanderil]]. [[Olhydra]] abandoned him when he attempted to Plane Shift to safety, leaving him vulnerable to the party's final assault. %% <!-- pota-statblock:auto --> ## Stat Block # Gar Shatterkeel *Medium Humanoid, Neutral Evil* **AC** 16 (natural armor) | **HP** 112 (15d8 + 45) | **Speed** 30 ft., swim 30 ft. **CR** 9 (5000 XP) | STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA | |:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| | 15 (+2) | 15 (+2) | 16 (+3) | 12 (+1) | 18 (+4) | 13 (+1) | **Skills** Nature +8, Survival +8 **Damage Resistances** cold **Senses** passive Perception 14 **Languages** Aquan, Common ### Traits _**Amphibious.**_ Gar can breathe air and water. _**Legendary Resistance (2/Day).**_ If Gar fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead. _**Spellcasting.**_ Gar is a 9th-level spellcaster.
