# Paul
_Human Baker | [[The Lucky Lumpkin]] | [[Baldur's Gate]]_
## Summary
[[Rick]]'s father and, with his wife [[Robin]], proprietor of [[The Lucky Lumpkin]] bakery in the [[Lower City]], famous for its lumpkins. A devoted [[Baldur's Mouth]] reader whose populist suspicion of outsiders initially soured him on the refugees — until Duke [[Dillard Portyr]]'s sincerity won him over and he threw himself into the Baldurian Benevolent Business Association organizing refugee aid.

## Now
Helping run the Baldurian Benevolent Business Association out of [[The Lucky Lumpkin]] alongside [[Dillard Portyr]]'s man [[Oswin]] — providing goods to displaced [[Elturel]] refugees. Delighted his son is home, less delighted about the state of the world.
## Appearance
_A Lower City baker, flour-dusted and comfortable behind his own counter._
## Personality
Warm to family, generous with lumpkins, and prone to conspiracy theories picked up from the [[Baldur's Mouth]] — outsiders are the problem, the gates should stay closed. But his instincts are decent underneath the populism: a sincere man could change his mind, and [[Dillard Portyr]] did. Sees opportunity where it knocks, even when the knock confuses him.
## Connections
**[[Rick]]** — son.
**[[Robin]]** — wife; co-owns the bakery.
**[[Dillard Portyr]]** — the Duke's honesty impressed him despite his politics; now a partner in refugee aid.
**[[Oswin]]** — [[Dillard Portyr]]'s man, working with him on the Business Association.
## Background
**The Turn:** He aired his outsider suspicions until the heroes reminded him the refugees were the victims — then revealed, almost offhandedly, that Duke [[Dillard Portyr]] had recently visited the bakery and left a genuine impression, a lead that opened the party's alliance with the Duke.
**The Association:** [[Dillard Portyr]] directed [[Oswin]] to work with Paul and other merchants to form the Baldurian Benevolent Business Association, promoted through the [[Baldurian Times]] as compassion answering fear.
