While [[Corellon Larethian]] is the patron of arcane magic itself, [[Ioun]] governs its study and understanding. Her followers seek to accumulate, preserve, and distribute knowledge in all forms, building libraries and academies in her name. She is the eternal rival of [[Vecna]], who seeks to control and hide knowledge, while she believes it should be shared freely. [[Ioun]] is credited as the creator of the magical [[Ioun stones]] that bear her name, and she dwells in the [[Endless Athenaeum]], a vast library containing all knowledge. Her holy symbol is typically depicted as an eye surrounded by text or scrolls. In the primordial epoch before the [[Dawn War]], [[Ioun]] joined [[Pelor]] and [[Tharizdun]] in discovering the [[Living Gate]], a portal to realms beyond reality. While she and [[Pelor]] honored their vow never to return to the gate, [[Tharizdun]]'s ambition led him back, where he found and claimed the [[Shard of Evil]] that would corrupt him into the [[Chained God]].
