His symbol is the rising sun, and he's popular among merchants, adventurers, and nobles starting new ventures. His followers, called Dawnbringers, despise undead and work to foster new life and hope. Lathander has a dark history—he once caused the catastrophic Dawn Cataclysm trying to reshape the entire Faerûnian pantheon, killing several deities and earning [[Helm]]'s eternal hatred. Lathander was [[Elkane]]'s divine patron until [[Elkane]] was corrupted by [[Arkexes Woe]] and forced to serve as one of [[Baba Yaga]]'s Horsemen. [[Elkane]] lost his divine connection after committing terrible acts, including killing [[Sunset Flickerflame]]. Later, while imprisoned by [[Baphomet]] in the Abyss, [[Elkane]] met [[Zywin]] of the [[Righteous Order of the White Flame]] and eventually reconnected with [[Lathander]], who forgave him and restored their bond. When [[Elkane]] advocated for [[Dusk]] during her lich transformation, he convinced [[Lathander]] to guide her morally rather than destroy her.
