![[MaskPic.png]] # Mask *God, God of Thieves and Shadows | None | Plane of Shadow* ## Summary [[Mask]], the Lord of Shadows, is the god of thieves, spies, infiltrators, and those who work in darkness. He represents the art of moving unseen, gathering secrets, and taking what others cannot protect. His symbol is a black mask, and he is worshipped by rogues, assassins, and criminal organizations who view their activities as sacred devotions rather than mere lawbreaking. [[Mask]] teaches that information is the greatest treasure, that the darkness conceals both opportunity and safety, and that those who master stealth and deception hold true power. He encourages his followers to work from the shadows, influencing events without revealing themselves. [[Mask]] serves as the patron deity of the [[Gilded Gallows]], whose members view their criminal enterprise as holy work in service to the Lord of Shadows. Under [[Jareth Giltgrave]]'s leadership, the organization has transformed into a fanatical cult that sees theft, infiltration, and assassination as sacred sacraments. The [[Umbral Conclave]] represents their vision of a shadow theocracy where [[Mask]]'s worship becomes the dominant faith. In the [[Rage of Dragons]] campaign, [[Mask]]'s influence pervades the [[Gloomcellar]], the [[Gilded Gallows]]' horrific prison beneath [[Neverwinter]]. A statue of [[Mask]] in the prison's depths bound captives with the [[Mark of Mask]], preventing their escape even in death. Members of the [[Gilded Gallows]] carried [[Tokens of Mask]] that protected them from the spectral guardians haunting the prison. The heroes' destruction of the statue and liberation of the [[Gloomcellar]] dealt a significant blow to [[Mask]]'s cult, though his worship continues through the surviving [[Gilded Gallows]] cells. [[Adira Shadowveil]]'s ghost, corrupted by her sister [[Mariliira Shadowveil]]'s fanatical devotion to [[Mask]], served as a tragic reminder of how the Lord of Shadows' teachings can twist family bonds into instruments of cruelty.
