![[Naskadi.png]] # Náskadi _Goddess of Eternal Winter | Imprisoned in the [[Ring of Winter]]_ ## Summary Daughter of [[Thrym]] and [[Auril]], imprisoned by [[Surtur]] during the [[Thousand Year War]] for betraying giantkind. Speaks to [[Petra]] through the fragment of her soul claimed when Petra stole the [[Ring of Winter]] from [[Artus Cimber]]. [[Storvald]] believes himself destined to free and wed her. She is patient, cold, and very interested in her new bearer. %% ## At a Glance Appears as a frost giant woman of terrible beauty—pale blue skin like glacial ice, white hair that moves like blizzard winds, eyes that hold the emptiness between stars. When she chooses to seem kind, she is breathtaking. When she drops the mask, the temperature of the soul plummets. Millennia of imprisonment have not diminished her. They've refined her. She speaks to Petra with intimate warmth, genuine curiosity, motherly concern—all of it real, none of it safe. She wants to be free. She wants to be worshipped. She wants endless winter to swallow the world. And she has nothing but time. Currently a whisper in Petra's mind, testing boundaries, offering power, waiting for the moment her bearer puts on the ring. ## Personality Patient as a glacier. Cruel as frostbite. Capable of genuine affection—which makes her more dangerous, not less. She doesn't need to lie; the truth serves her better. Enjoys mortals the way a cat enjoys mice: fondly, hungrily, and without mercy. ## Quote _"You're cold, little one. I can feel it. Let me warm you. Let me in."_ ## Background **Divine Birth:** Born to [[Thrym]], god of frost giants, and [[Auril]], goddess of winter. Not a demigod—a full deity of the younger generation, with dominion over eternal winter and the cruelty it brings. **The Thousand Year War:** Fought alongside her mortal consort, the first [[Storvald]], against dragonkind. Their victories were legendary. Then ambition consumed them—they turned on giantkind itself, declaring themselves rightful rulers of all giants. Their reign was ice and slaughter. **The Imprisonment:** [[Surtur]] descended from the divine realm, slew her consort, and imprisoned her soul within the [[Ring of Winter]]. Not because she was weak—because she was terrifying enough to threaten the cosmic order. **The Long Wait:** Millennia in the ring, whispering to bearers, corrupting the weak, waiting for the strong. [[Artus Cimber]] resisted her for decades. Now she has [[Petra]]—a [[Soulmonger]] who claimed a fragment of her soul. The connection is deeper than any bearer before. **The Mad Jarl:** [[Storvald]] believes himself the reincarnation of her ancient consort, destined to free and wed her. His delusions are self-created—she has never spoken to him. But she's aware of him. He might yet prove useful. ## Stats ### Náskadi (Possessing Petra) *Medium humanoid (possessed), chaotic evil* If [[Petra]] puts on the [[Ring of Winter]], Náskadi claims her body. A goddess wearing mortal flesh—constrained but catastrophic. --- **AC:** 22 (divine frost armor manifesting over Petra's form) **HP:** 346 (21d12 + 210) **Speed:** 50 ft., fly 50 ft. (hover) **Initiative:** +19 (29) --- | STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA | |:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| | 30 (+10) | 21 (+5) | 30 (+10) | 21 (+5) | 22 (+6) | 27 (+8) | --- **Saving Throws:** Str +17, Con +10, Wis +13 **Skills:** Insight +13, Perception +13 **Damage Immunities:** Cold, necrotic **Damage Resistances:** Bludgeoning, piercing, slashing **Condition Immunities:** Charmed, exhaustion, frightened **Senses:** Truesight 120 ft., passive Perception 23 **Languages:** All, telepathy 120 ft. **Challenge:** 23 (50,000 XP; PB +7) --- ### Traits **Divine Vessel.** Náskadi is constrained by Petra's mortal form. If reduced to 0 HP, Náskadi is forced back into the Ring of Winter and Petra's body falls unconscious at 0 HP (stable). Petra can be revived normally, but the Ring remains on her finger unless removed by *remove curse* (DC 25) or similar magic. **Legendary Resistance (4/Day).** If Náskadi fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead. **Magic Resistance.** Náskadi has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. **Frozen Soul.** Any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of Náskadi takes 10 (3d6) cold damage. Water freezes, flames gutter, breath mists. --- ### Actions **Multiattack.** Náskadi makes two attacks, using Rimesorrow or Winter's Ray in any combination. **Rimesorrow (Greataxe).** *Melee Attack Roll:* +17, reach 10 ft. *Hit:* 31 (6d6 + 10) cold damage, and the target has the stunned condition until the start of Náskadi's next turn. The target can choose not to be stunned, in which case it takes an extra 21 cold damage that bypasses resistance or immunity. A creature killed by this attack has its soul claimed by Náskadi. Rimesorrow manifests from frozen mist when Náskadi takes control—a massive greataxe of black ice that weeps frost and screams faintly with the voices of the consumed. **Winter's Ray.** *Ranged Attack Roll:* +15, range 600 ft. *Hit:* 35 (6d8 + 8) cold or necrotic damage (Náskadi's choice). **Spellcasting.** Náskadi casts one of the following spells, requiring no material components and using Charisma as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 23): *At will:* *cone of cold*, *hold person*, *pass without trace*, *ice storm* *1/day each:* *power word stun*, *plane shift*, *imprisonment* (cold variant—target frozen in ice) --- ### Legendary Actions **Legendary Action Uses: 3.** Immediately after another creature's turn, Náskadi can expend a use to take one of the following actions. She regains all expended uses at the start of each of her turns. **Bolster.** Náskadi gains 10 temporary hit points, and each ally within 30 feet of her gains advantage on D20 tests until the end of Náskadi's next turn. She can't take this action again until the start of her next turn. **Killing Frost.** *Constitution Saving Throw:* DC 23, each creature in a 30-foot emanation originating from Náskadi. *Failure:* 27 (6d8) cold damage, and the target has the prone condition as ice encases their legs. *Success:* Half damage only. She can't take this action again until the start of her next turn. **Soul Freeze.** Náskadi makes one Winter's Ray attack. --- ### Breaking the Possession The party cannot simply kill Petra to stop Náskadi. Options include: - **Removing the Ring:** Requires *remove curse* against DC 25, or physically severing Petra's finger (she takes damage, Náskadi is forced back into the Ring, Petra falls unconscious). - **Reaching Petra:** A creature that knows Petra well can use an action to appeal to her, forcing a DC 20 Charisma saving throw for Náskadi. On a failure, Náskadi loses one legendary action on her next turn as Petra fights from within. Three successes in a single combat cause Náskadi to lose control for one round—Petra acts normally but is stunned the following round. - **Divine Intervention:** A cleric of sufficient power might call upon their god to contest Náskadi's hold. This is a dramatic, one-time option—not a repeatable tactic. %%
