# Belaam
_Devil Archdevil | Nine Hells | Cania_
## Summary
Once the brilliant scholar Owynn Firesong of Candlekeep, now the Archdevil Belaam, Lord of the Eighth. Father to Kali Firesong, Kasdeya Firesong, Osah Firesong, Adram Firesong, and—through Lyra Iscitarn—Decima Iscitarn. His obsession with forbidden knowledge led him to serve Graz'zt, then Asmodeus. He traded his wife's soul and his children's humanity for salvation from abyssal corruption. After helping orchestrate Graz'zt's defeat through his own daughter, Asmodeus rewarded him with Mephistopheles' vacant throne.

## At a Glance
Tall and gaunt with midnight blue skin traced by glittering frost-veins. White hair flows like fresh snow. Ice-blue eyes see through pretense and flesh alike. Wicked ice talons extend from elegant fingers.
Speaks with cold precision—every word calculated, every pause deliberate. The scholar's hunger for knowledge remains, but the warmth burned away long ago. Shows flashes of genuine passion only when discussing magical theory or cosmic secrets.
Resented by other archdevils as a "mortal upstart." Constantly schemes to prove his worthiness, treating the Firesong bloodline as an extension of himself to be guided, manipulated, and ultimately owned.
## Personality
Coldly ambitious. Obsessively curious. Possessive to the point of pathology about anything he considers his—knowledge, domain, bloodline. Would make the same bargains again without hesitation. The man who loved Cecily is gone; what remains is pure calculated hunger wearing his face.
## Quote
_"Knowledge is the only currency that matters in the long game of existence. I have paid its price in full."_
## Background
**The Scholar:** A Candlekeep monk who fell in love with Cecily Firesong during their studies. His exploration of forbidden texts—the Trial of Asmodeus, Demonomicon of Iggwilv, Prophecies of Alaundo—granted prophetic visions that would make him valuable to archfiends. Expelled for his transgressions.
**The Riftwalkers:** Formed a planar exploration company with Elizar Dryflagon, Shoalar Quanderil, Windharrow, and Lashpera. Cecily followed him into exile. They married and had four children.
**The Death:** Demanded Tharizdun's true name from Baba Yaga. The knowledge killed him instantly. Cecily made a desperate deal with the witch to resurrect him; he sold the memory to survive, though fragments still haunted him.
**The Corruption:** A Chaos Gem corrupted his mind. He betrayed the Sun King and his companions to Graz'zt at the Heart of the Abyss. Served as the demon lord's prophet for years, the abyssal corruption causing constant agony, until he abandoned his family entirely.
**The Bargain:** Traded Cecily's soul and his children's humanity to Asmodeus for relief from the corruption. His children became tieflings overnight. His wife was damned to Hell. But Asmodeus was playing a longer game—using Owynn's prophetic gifts to orchestrate Graz'zt's eventual defeat by Owynn's own daughter Kali Firesong.
**The Ascension:** With Graz'zt destroyed and Mephistopheles imprisoned, Asmodeus elevated his faithful servant to fill the vacancy. Owynn Firesong died. Belaam, Lord of Cania, was born.
