# Doresain
_Undead King of Ghouls | [[Demogorgon]]'s Coalition | [[Thanatos]]_
## Summary
Former elven worshipper of [[Orcus]] who transformed himself into an undead creature through cannibalistic rituals. Once an exarch serving the Prince of Undeath, he ruled the White Kingdom until [[Yeenoghu]] invaded and forced him into vassalage. When Orcus failed to intervene, Doresain learned that even the most devoted servants can be abandoned.
Following Orcus's permanent destruction by the Heroes of Waterdeep, Doresain seized [[Thanatos]]—Orcus's former realm—and pledged fealty to [[Demogorgon]]. His betrayal of Orcus's legacy triggered civil war among the former Prince of Undeath's followers, further destabilizing the Abyss and strengthening Demogorgon's position.

## At a Glance
Gaunt ghoul with eyes glowing vile green and hoof-like feet. Wears an elegant coat over leather armor adorned with skulls, crowned with silver and protruding bone spikes. His elven heritage shows in sharp, angular features despite undead transformation.
Speaks with the refined diction of his former noble elven life, but with underlying hunger that makes every word seem like a prelude to feeding. Calculated, patient—having learned survival through centuries of shifting allegiances.
## Personality
Opportunistic, pragmatic, ambitious. Values survival above loyalty. Creates maurezhi to lead ghoul legions. His palace is built from the petrified form of the divine being Syvexrae, whose brain he continuously devours. Granted elves immunity to ghoul paralysis in exchange for aid from the Seldarine.
## Quote
_"I have served many masters and outlived them all. Loyalty is a luxury the hungry cannot afford—but power... power endures."_
## Background
A mortal elf so devoted to Orcus he practiced cannibalism as worship. This dark devotion transformed him into a powerful ghoul, earning elevation to exarch. When Yeenoghu invaded the White Kingdom and Orcus failed to intervene, Doresain was forced into vassalage—a humiliation that taught him masters can abandon servants.
When Orcus was permanently destroyed, the pragmatic King of Ghouls immediately claimed Thanatos rather than mourning or seeking vengeance. Recognizing Demogorgon's inevitable rise, he pledged loyalty early—bringing vast undead legions into the coalition.
## Stats
**Demon Lord** with necromantic specialization, ghoul/ghast control.
