Originally the city's first ruler, his pride and hatred of divine authority led to the Great Purge, driving Djinn and Marid from the city. Though the gods exiled him and cursed his followers, his punishment would not last forever. He returned to power through a violent coup orchestrated with [[Lashpera]], a Demon Lord masquerading as an Efreeti. Using a scimitar forged from the [[Shard of Evil]], he defeated [[Ashur Ban]] and [[Cirrishade]]—trapping Ashur Ban in a ring and binding Cirrishade's essence to the Shard to prevent resurrection. He systematically erased all records of their golden age. During the Oblivion War, his interest in claiming [[Kasdeya Firesong]] as his consort led to a diplomatic crisis when she escaped. His ambassador [[Afet Ijah Zaled]] threatened to invade Waterdeep unless she was surrendered. Arrogant and overconfident, he failed to recognize the danger when the Heroes of Waterdeep infiltrated his private chambers disguised as gifts, with [[Reg]] pretending to be [[Renaer Neverember]]'s twin. Despite his retainers and three captive Devas, his forces were quickly overwhelmed when [[Osah Firesong]] launched a devastating sneak attack.
